WhatsApp Text Formatter
Write bold, italic, strikethrough and monospace WhatsApp messages, add bullet and numbered lists, and copy them in one click.
WhatsApp has no toolbar for bold or italic text, so this free WhatsApp text formatter does it for you. Type or paste your message, select words and make them bold, italic, bold italic or strikethrough, turn text into monospace code, and add bullets, ticks or numbered lists. Tidy the spacing, check the live chat bubble preview and the character counter, then copy your message and paste it straight into WhatsApp. Your text never leaves your browser, and the tool is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Text Never Leaves Your Browser
Native WhatsApp Formatting
Private: your text is formatted in your browser and never uploaded. WhatsApp formatting uses its own markers (*bold*, _italic_, ~strikethrough~) so it stays styled when you paste it into a chat. Protected by Cloudflare Turnstile.
How Do You Format Text on WhatsApp?
To format text on WhatsApp, type or paste your message into the editor, select the words you want to change and click B (bold), I (italic) or S (strikethrough). Add bullets or numbered lists from the Lists menu, check the preview, then click Copy message and paste it into any WhatsApp chat. The formatting stays because the tool adds WhatsApp's own markers, such as *bold* and _italic_, which WhatsApp shows as styled text on Android, iPhone, WhatsApp Web and desktop.
WhatsApp uses simple text markers instead of a formatting button: asterisks for *bold*, underscores for _italic_, tildes for ~strikethrough~ and backticks for `monospace`. A WhatsApp text formatter adds these symbols in the right places for you, so you do not have to remember them or fix formatting that breaks when a stray space slips in.
The formatting happens in your browser, so your message is never uploaded or stored. You get a preview that looks like a real WhatsApp chat bubble, a live character and word count against WhatsApp’s 65,536-character message limit, and a reminder of where long messages get folded behind “Read more”. Undo, redo, paste from clipboard, a sample message and download as a .txt file are all built in.
Common reasons to format WhatsApp messages:
- Make the key point of a long message stand out in a busy group chat.
- Send clear announcements, notices and reminders to groups and communities.
- Share step-by-step instructions, recipes or checklists as numbered or bulleted lists.
- Highlight prices, offers, order details and dates in WhatsApp Business messages.
- Show corrections with strikethrough, such as an old and new price or time.
- Share order IDs, codes or commands in monospace so they are easy to read and copy.
What each option does:
| Option | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Bold, Italic, Bold italic | Wraps the selected text in *asterisks*, _underscores_ or both, so WhatsApp shows it styled. | Headings, key facts, dates, names and calls to action. |
| Strikethrough | Wraps the text in ~tildes~ to cross it out. | Corrections, finished tasks, or showing an old and new price. |
| Code (monospace) | Wraps the text in backticks for a fixed-width, typewriter look. | Order IDs, codes, commands, short tables and stats. |
| Lists | Bullets, arrows, checkmarks, green ticks, pointers, sparkles, checkboxes, numbers and emoji numbers. | Steps, agendas, shopping lists, features and checklists. |
| Insert | Ready-made dividers and popular emojis. | Separating sections in long announcements and broadcasts. |
| Clean up | Clear styling, tidy spacing, space out lines, remove blank lines. | Fixing text pasted from Notes, Word, Google Docs or ChatGPT. |

Which Formatting Should I Use for Each Type of WhatsApp Message?
| Message type | Formatting | Lists | Tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group announcement | Bold heading and date | Bullets or arrows ➤ | Put the most important line first |
| Event invite | Bold event name, date and time | Numbered details or emoji numbers | Add a divider before the address |
| Business offer or catalogue | Bold product name and price | Green ticks for features | Strike through the old price |
| Order or delivery update | Monospace order ID | Checkmarks for each stage | Keep it short and clear |
| Instructions or recipe | Bold title | Numbered steps | One step per line |
| Status or channel post | Bold hook | Short lines or emoji bullets | End with a clear call to action |
Writing a WhatsApp message that is easy to read:
- Start with the main point, since long messages are folded behind "Read more".
- Keep lines short, with a blank line between ideas.
- Bold a few key words, not whole paragraphs.
- Use lists for steps, details or options instead of long sentences.
- End with a clear question or next step so people know how to reply.
After you format your message, you can paste it into one-to-one chats, groups, communities, channels, Status updates and WhatsApp Business chats. The *, _, ~ and ` markers only style text inside WhatsApp; other apps show them as plain symbols. For bold text on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn, use Teasoft’s Instagram Text Formatter, which uses Unicode fonts instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I bold text on WhatsApp?
Put an asterisk on both sides of the text, like *hello*. With this formatter, select the words, click B, then copy the message and paste it into WhatsApp. It shows as bold once sent.
How do I italicize or strike through text on WhatsApp?
Use underscores for italic (_hello_) and tildes for strikethrough (~hello~). Here, select the text and click I or S, or press Ctrl/Cmd + I, then copy the message and paste it into your chat.
Is this WhatsApp text formatter free?
Yes. It is 100% free, with no sign-up, no limits and no watermark.
Is my text uploaded or saved?
No. All formatting runs in your browser. Your message is never sent to a server or stored.
Does formatting work on iPhone, Android and WhatsApp Web?
Yes. Bold, italic, strikethrough, monospace and lists show in WhatsApp for Android and iPhone, on WhatsApp Web, in the desktop app and in WhatsApp Business.
How do I add bullet points to a WhatsApp message?
Select the lines and open Lists. Choose bullets, arrows, checkmarks, green ticks, pointers, sparkles, checkboxes or numbers. Choose Remove list to undo it.
Can I underline text on WhatsApp?
No. WhatsApp has no underline formatting, so the underline button is turned off for WhatsApp. Use bold or italic to highlight words instead.
What is the character limit for a WhatsApp message?
A single WhatsApp message can hold up to 65,536 characters. Long messages are folded behind "Read more", so put your key point first. The counter under the editor shows your characters and words as you type.
Do formatting symbols count as characters?
Yes. Each *, _, ~ or ` marker counts toward your total, even though WhatsApp hides it once the text is styled. Bolding a word adds two characters.
Why is my WhatsApp formatting not working?
The markers must touch the text with no space inside, like *bold*, not * bold *. A marker stuck to another letter or a line break inside the marked text can also stop it working. Use Clean up → Tidy spacing and copy again.
How do I write monospace or code text on WhatsApp?
Wrap the text in three backticks for a monospace block, or one backtick for inline code. In this tool, select the text and choose Code from the Fonts menu.
Can I format WhatsApp groups, Status and channels?
Yes. Format the text here, copy it and paste it into a group chat, community, Status update, channel post or WhatsApp Business message.
How do I remove formatting from text?
Select the text and choose Clean up → Clear styling. It removes the WhatsApp markers and turns the text back into plain letters.
How do I add line breaks to a WhatsApp message?
Press Enter in the editor to start a new line. Use Clean up → Space out lines to add a blank line between ideas, or Remove blank lines to tighten the message. On WhatsApp Web and desktop, press Shift + Enter for a new line.
Can I add emojis and dividers to my message?
Yes. Open Insert to add dividers such as ━━━━ or ── ✦ ── and popular emojis like 🚀, ✅, ✨ and 🔥.
Why does my formatting disappear when I paste into WhatsApp?
Bold or italic copied from Word, Notes or Google Docs is lost because WhatsApp only reads its own markers. Use Copy message here instead, so the *, _ and ~ symbols are included and WhatsApp styles your text.
Can I use this formatter for other apps?
WhatsApp markers only style text inside WhatsApp. Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn show them as plain symbols, so use Teasoft's Instagram Text Formatter, which uses Unicode fonts, for those.
Can I save my message?
Click Download to save your message as a .txt file, or Copy message to paste it anywhere.
