MS Word Text Formatter
Style text for Microsoft Word with bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, fancy fonts, symbol bullets, dividers and emojis, then copy and paste in one click.
Text copied from PDFs, websites and AI chats often lands in Word with odd spacing and broken styles, and decorative fonts are not on every computer. This free MS Word text formatter fixes both. Type or paste your text, select words and click bold, italic, underline or strikethrough, pick a Unicode font such as script, monospace or double-struck, add bullets, checkboxes or numbered lists, and insert dividers and emojis. Clean up tools remove leftover styling and extra blank lines, and a live Word-style page preview shows exactly how your text will look before you paste. Everything runs in your browser, free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Text Never Leaves Your Browser
Bold, Italic, Fonts, Lists & More
Private: your text is formatted in your browser and never uploaded. Styled letters are Unicode, so screen readers may spell them out; use them for short highlights. Protected by Cloudflare Turnstile.
How Do You Format Text for MS Word?
To format text for MS Word, type or paste it into the editor above, select the words you want to style and click B, I, BI, U or S, or open Fonts for styles like script, monospace or small caps. Add bullets, checkboxes or numbered lists from Lists, and use Clean up to strip messy spacing. Click Copy text and paste into any Word document on Windows, Mac or the web, and the styling stays exactly as it looked in the preview.
The tool styles text with Unicode characters, so bold, italic and fancy fonts are built into the letters themselves rather than applied as Word formatting. That means your styling survives anywhere you paste it, including Word, Google Docs, Outlook, Notepad and text boxes that strip normal formatting. For long body text, headings and tables of contents, use Word’s own Bold, Italic and Styles instead, and keep Unicode styles for short highlights.
The formatting happens in your browser, so your text is never uploaded or stored. You get a live preview that looks like a real Word page, with the ribbon, document title and page counter, so you can check spacing, lists and fonts before you copy. Paste from clipboard, sample text, undo, redo, clear and download as a .txt file are all built in.
Common reasons to use an MS Word text formatter:
- Clean text copied from PDFs, websites, emails or AI chatbots before it goes into a Word document.
- Add bold, italic or script headings to flyers, certificates, invitations and posters without installing new fonts.
- Turn notes, steps and requirements into checkbox, arrow or numbered lists that paste as plain characters.
- Keep styling when text moves from Word into places that drop formatting, such as forms, plain text emails and social posts.
- Separate sections of resumes, reports and handouts with clean divider lines in one click.
- Add emojis and symbols to newsletters, worksheets and classroom handouts without hunting through Insert Symbol.
What each option does:
| Option | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Bold, Italic, Bold italic | Converts the selected letters into Unicode bold, italic or bold italic characters. | Short titles, labels, key terms and calls to action. |
| Underline, Strikethrough | Adds a line under or through each selected character. | Highlighting a must-read line, or crossing out an old price, date or task. |
| Fonts | Switches text to sans bold, sans italic, monospace, script, bold script, Fraktur, double-struck or small caps. | Decorative headings, invitations, certificates and name labels. |
| Lists | Adds bullets, arrows, checkmarks, green ticks, pointers, sparkles, checkboxes, numbers or emoji numbers to each line. | Steps, checklists, requirements, agendas and to-do lists. |
| Dividers | Inserts a ready-made line, such as a solid, double or dotted divider, between sections. | Breaking up long notes, handouts and plain text documents. |
| Emojis | Inserts popular emojis such as rockets, checkmarks, light bulbs and pins at the cursor. | Newsletters, social captions, classroom handouts and informal notes. |
| Clean up | Clears styling, tidies spaces, spaces out lines or removes blank lines. | Fixing messy text pasted from PDFs, websites, emails or AI tools. |
| Copy, Download, Undo, Redo | Copies the result, saves it as a .txt file, or steps back and forward through changes. | Pasting into Word, keeping a backup, or trying styles safely. |
Good to know
- Styled text pastes as Unicode characters, not Word formatting, so Word’s Bold, Italic and Clear Formatting buttons will not switch it on or off.
- Word’s spell checker and Find may not recognise styled words, so keep important keywords and names in normal text.
- Screen readers can spell out styled letters one by one, so use them for short highlights rather than full paragraphs.
- A few styles, such as Fraktur and emoji numbers, need a font that includes them, which most modern Windows and Mac computers already have.
- Lists and dividers paste as plain characters, so Word will not renumber or re-indent them when you edit the document.

Which Text Style Should You Use in MS Word?

Format your text
Select words and click B, I, BI, U or S, open Fonts for fancy styles, add Lists, dividers or emojis, and use Clean up to fix spacing.
Copy and paste into Word
Click Copy text, open your Word document, then press Ctrl+V on Windows or Cmd+V on Mac to paste it.

Where Can You Use Formatted Text in MS Word?
| Where in Word | Formatting | Lists | Tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Body text and paragraphs | Bold one or two key words | Bullets or numbers for steps | Keep paragraphs in a normal font so they stay readable and searchable. |
| Titles and cover pages | Bold, script or double-struck fonts | None | Use one decorative style per page so the title stands out. |
| Invitations, flyers and certificates | Script, bold script or small caps | Sparkles or pointers for details | Put the date, time and place on their own lines. |
| Checklists and to-do lists | Bold task headings | Checkboxes or green ticks | Print the page and tick items off by hand. |
| Resumes and CVs | Bold or small caps for section labels | Bullets or arrows for achievements | Use styled text sparingly, because some applicant tracking systems read it as symbols. |
| Text boxes, tables and headers | Bold, italic or monospace | Short bullets | Check the line still fits after styling, as some styles are wider. |
Writing a Word document that is easy to read:
- Lead with the key point, because most readers skim before they read.
- Style one or two words per line, not whole paragraphs, so emphasis still means something.
- Use short lists for steps, requirements and tasks instead of long blocks of text.
- Break long documents into sections with clear headings and dividers.
- Clean up pasted text first, so spacing and fonts stay consistent from start to finish.
After you format your text, you can paste it into Microsoft Word for Windows, Word for Mac, Word on the web and the Word mobile apps, as well as Google Docs, Pages, Outlook, OneNote and PowerPoint. Because the styles are Unicode characters, they also keep their look in places that strip normal formatting, such as plain text emails, online forms, social media posts and Notepad.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make text bold for MS Word?
Type or paste your text into the editor, select the words and click B. The tool turns them into Unicode bold letters. Click Copy text and paste into Word with Ctrl+V on Windows or Cmd+V on Mac. The bold stays even if you change the font or paste the text somewhere else.
How do I make text italic, underlined or strikethrough?
Select the text and click I for italic, BI for bold italic, U for underline or S for strikethrough. You can combine styles, preview the result on the Word-style page, then copy and paste it into your document.
Is this the same as Word’s Bold and Italic buttons?
No. Word’s buttons apply formatting to normal letters, while this tool swaps them for styled Unicode characters. Use Word’s buttons, or Ctrl+B and Ctrl+I, for body text and headings, and use this tool for decorative titles and for text that must keep its style outside Word.
How do I add bullet points, checkboxes or numbered lists?
Select the lines and open Lists. Choose bullets, arrows, checkmarks, green ticks, pointers, sparkles, checkboxes, numbers or emoji numbers. Each line gets its symbol, and Remove list takes it off again.
How do I add a divider line in Word?
Place your cursor where the break should go, open the divider menu and pick a style, such as a solid, double or dotted line. The divider pastes into Word as normal characters, so you can move or delete it like any other text.
Is the MS Word Text Formatter free?
Yes. It is 100% free, with no sign-up, no usage limits and no watermark.
Is my text private?
Yes. All formatting runs in your browser on your own device. Your text is never uploaded to a server or stored.
Does it work with Word for Mac, Word online and the mobile app?
Yes. The styled text is made of standard Unicode characters, so it pastes into Word for Windows, Word for Mac, Word on the web and the Word apps for iPhone, iPad and Android.
Can I use this formatted text in Google Docs, Outlook or other apps?
Yes. The same text works in Google Docs, Pages, Outlook, OneNote, PowerPoint, email, online forms and social media, because the styling is part of the characters rather than app-specific formatting.
Why does Word underline my styled text in red?
Word’s spell checker may not recognise Unicode styled letters as normal words, so it can flag them. The text is fine. Right-click and choose Ignore All, or keep styled text to short titles and labels.
Can I use a fancy font in Word without installing it?
Yes. Open Fonts, pick a style such as script, Fraktur, double-struck or small caps, then copy the result. The look comes from the characters themselves, so you do not need to download or install a font file.
Why does my styled text show as boxes or question marks?
Some older computers, phones or fonts do not include every Unicode character, so a few letters can appear as empty boxes. Try a simpler style such as sans bold or italic, or update your operating system.
Is formatted text accessible for screen readers?
Word formatting such as Bold and Italic is read normally. Unicode styled letters can be spelled out one by one or skipped by some screen readers, so use them for short highlights and keep important information in plain text.
How do I remove formatting from text before pasting into Word?
Paste your text into the editor, open Clean up and click Clear styling to return it to plain text. In Word you can also paste with Keep Text Only, or select text and press Ctrl+Space to remove character formatting.
How do I fix extra spaces and blank lines in pasted text?
Open Clean up and choose Tidy spacing to remove double spaces, Remove blank lines to close up gaps, or Space out lines to add one blank line between paragraphs. This is handy for text copied from PDFs, websites and AI chatbots.
Can I change the size or colour of styled text in Word?
Yes. Styled letters are ordinary characters, so you can change their size, colour and highlight with Word’s toolbar. Changing the font may have little or no effect, because the style is built into each character.
Can Word’s Find and Replace search styled text?
Not with normal letters. Find looks for exact characters, so searching for “hello” will not match a Unicode bold version of the word. Keep names, keywords and anything people will search for in plain text.
How do I save my text for later?
Click Download to save your formatted text as a .txt file, or click Copy text and paste it into a Word document. Undo and Redo let you step back through changes before you save.
