WhatsApp Text Formatter

Write bold, italic, strikethrough and monospace WhatsApp messages, add bullet and numbered lists, and copy them in one click.

WhatsApp has no toolbar for bold or italic text, so this free WhatsApp text formatter does it for you. Type or paste your message, select words and make them bold, italic, bold italic or strikethrough, turn text into monospace code, and add bullets, ticks or numbered lists. Tidy the spacing, check the live chat bubble preview and the character counter, then copy your message and paste it straight into WhatsApp. Your text never leaves your browser, and the tool is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Native WhatsApp Formatting

Private: your text is formatted in your browser and never uploaded. WhatsApp formatting uses its own markers (*bold*, _italic_, ~strikethrough~) so it stays styled when you paste it into a chat. Protected by Cloudflare Turnstile.

How Do You Format Text on WhatsApp?

To format text on WhatsApp, type or paste your message into the editor, select the words you want to change and click B (bold), I (italic) or S (strikethrough). Add bullets or numbered lists from the Lists menu, check the preview, then click Copy message and paste it into any WhatsApp chat. The formatting stays because the tool adds WhatsApp's own markers, such as *bold* and _italic_, which WhatsApp shows as styled text on Android, iPhone, WhatsApp Web and desktop.

WhatsApp uses simple text markers instead of a formatting button: asterisks for *bold*, underscores for _italic_, tildes for ~strikethrough~ and backticks for `monospace`. A WhatsApp text formatter adds these symbols in the right places for you, so you do not have to remember them or fix formatting that breaks when a stray space slips in.

The formatting happens in your browser, so your message is never uploaded or stored. You get a preview that looks like a real WhatsApp chat bubble, a live character and word count against WhatsApp’s 65,536-character message limit, and a reminder of where long messages get folded behind “Read more”. Undo, redo, paste from clipboard, a sample message and download as a .txt file are all built in.

Common reasons to format WhatsApp messages:

What each option does:

Code (monospace)Wraps the text in backticks for a fixed-width, typewriter look.Order IDs, codes, commands, short tables and stats.
ListsBullets, arrows, checkmarks, green ticks, pointers, sparkles, checkboxes, numbers and emoji numbers.Steps, agendas, shopping lists, features and checklists.

What You Can Do With This Tool

Which WhatsApp Text Style Should I Use?

Use bold for headings and key details, italic for quotes or soft emphasis, strikethrough for corrections, and lists to break up long messages. Keep monospace for codes and numbers, so your message stays easy to read in a busy chat on any phone.

Bold: Best for headings, dates, prices and anything people must not miss.
Italic: Good for quotes, side notes and gentle emphasis.
Strikethrough: Shows corrections, sold-out items or an old price beside a new one.
Lists: Turn long announcements, steps and agendas into quick, skimmable points.
Monospace: Works well for order IDs, codes, links and stats.
Emojis and dividers: Use a few to separate sections, not in every line.

How to Format a WhatsApp Message (3 Steps)

Write or paste your message

Type in the editor, click Paste to bring in text from your clipboard, or click Sample to try a ready-made message. The counter shows your characters and words as you type.

Format your text

Select words and click B, I, BI or S. Open Fonts for monospace code, Lists for bullets and numbers, Insert for dividers and emojis, and Clean up to fix spacing. Check the chat preview as you go.

Copy and send on WhatsApp

Click Copy message, open WhatsApp on your phone, WhatsApp Web or desktop, and paste into any chat, group, channel or Status. Your bold, italics and lists appear just like the preview. You can also download it as a .txt file.

Writing a WhatsApp message that is easy to read:

After you format your message, you can paste it into one-to-one chats, groups, communities, channels, Status updates and WhatsApp Business chats. The *, _, ~ and ` markers only style text inside WhatsApp; other apps show them as plain symbols. For bold text on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn, use Teasoft’s Instagram Text Formatter, which uses Unicode fonts instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Put an asterisk on both sides of the text, like *hello*. With this formatter, select the words, click B, then copy the message and paste it into WhatsApp. It shows as bold once sent.

Use underscores for italic (_hello_) and tildes for strikethrough (~hello~). Here, select the text and click I or S, or press Ctrl/Cmd + I, then copy the message and paste it into your chat.

Yes. Bold, italic, strikethrough, monospace and lists show in WhatsApp for Android and iPhone, on WhatsApp Web, in the desktop app and in WhatsApp Business.

Select the lines and open Lists. Choose bullets, arrows, checkmarks, green ticks, pointers, sparkles, checkboxes or numbers. Choose Remove list to undo it.

No. WhatsApp has no underline formatting, so the underline button is turned off for WhatsApp. Use bold or italic to highlight words instead.

A single WhatsApp message can hold up to 65,536 characters. Long messages are folded behind "Read more", so put your key point first. The counter under the editor shows your characters and words as you type.

Yes. Each *, _, ~ or ` marker counts toward your total, even though WhatsApp hides it once the text is styled. Bolding a word adds two characters.

The markers must touch the text with no space inside, like *bold*, not * bold *. A marker stuck to another letter or a line break inside the marked text can also stop it working. Use Clean up → Tidy spacing and copy again.

Wrap the text in three backticks for a monospace block, or one backtick for inline code. In this tool, select the text and choose Code from the Fonts menu.

Yes. Format the text here, copy it and paste it into a group chat, community, Status update, channel post or WhatsApp Business message.

Select the text and choose Clean up → Clear styling. It removes the WhatsApp markers and turns the text back into plain letters.

Press Enter in the editor to start a new line. Use Clean up → Space out lines to add a blank line between ideas, or Remove blank lines to tighten the message. On WhatsApp Web and desktop, press Shift + Enter for a new line.

Yes. Open Insert to add dividers such as ━━━━ or ── ✦ ── and popular emojis like 🚀, ✅, ✨ and 🔥.

Bold or italic copied from Word, Notes or Google Docs is lost because WhatsApp only reads its own markers. Use Copy message here instead, so the *, _ and ~ symbols are included and WhatsApp styles your text.

WhatsApp markers only style text inside WhatsApp. Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn show them as plain symbols, so use Teasoft's Instagram Text Formatter, which uses Unicode fonts, for those.
