Why Convert PDF to PNG?
PDF to PNG conversion turns each page of a PDF into a separate PNG image. PNG is lossless, so text, charts and graphics stay sharp, and you can keep a transparent background if you want one. Choose 72 DPI for small previews, 150 DPI for standard use, or 300 DPI for print and fine detail.
PNG is the format designers and presenters reach for when quality matters. Unlike JPG, it doesn't blur text or soften sharp edges, so a PDF page converted to PNG keeps lines, charts and writing crisp. It also supports transparency, which is useful when you want to place a page or graphic over another background.
Common reasons to convert PDF to PNG:
- You want sharp text and diagrams from a PDF to use in slides or documents.
- You need a chart, logo or graphic from a PDF as an image with a transparent background.
- You want to annotate, mark up or edit a page in an image editor.
- A design tool, website builder or platform wants PNG instead of PDF.
- You are creating a high-quality preview or thumbnail of a document.
- You plan to print a page at high resolution without compression loss.
PNG vs JPG for PDF pages at a glance:
| PNG | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Lossless | Lossy |
| Text and line art | Crisp | Can look slightly soft |
| Transparency | Yes | No |
| File size | Larger | Smaller |
| Best for | Slides, designs, diagrams, text pages, editing | Photos, quick sharing, small files |
Good to know
- Each page becomes one PNG. A 10-page PDF gives you 10 images, which you can download in one ZIP.
- PNG files are larger than JPG. Lossless quality costs space. Use 150 DPI instead of 300 DPI if file size matters.
- Text becomes part of the picture. You can no longer select, copy or search the words. If you need the text, keep the PDF.
- Transparent background only helps if the page has none. Many PDF pages have a plain white page background. Ticking Transparent removes the page background so graphics sit on a see-through canvas, but content with its own filled white box will stay white.

Should You Convert PDF to PNG or JPG, and Which DPI Is Right?
Choose PNG when...
• The page has text, tables, charts, diagrams or line art that should stay crisp.
• You want to edit, annotate or place the page in a design.
• You need a transparent background.
• You want a lossless copy with no compression softening.
Choose JPG when...
• The page is mostly photos.
• You need the smallest practical file for email, chat or upload limits.
• You are sharing quickly and sharpness is not critical. Use Teasoft's PDF to JPG tool.
What does DPI mean?
DPI means "dots per inch". For a PDF page turned into an image, it controls how many pixels are used to draw each inch of the page. More pixels mean a sharper picture and a larger file.
• 72 DPI: small and quick. Small text can look soft.
• 150 DPI: the everyday choice. Sharp enough for screens, slides and most uploads.
• 300 DPI: for print and fine detail. Files are much larger.
Tips for clean results
- Text-heavy pages: 150 DPI is usually enough for screens. Use 300 DPI for printing.
- Need a smaller file? Use 150 DPI instead of 300 DPI, or convert to JPG instead.
- Long PDFs: if your PDF has more than 100 pages, split it into parts first.
- Need to keep the text? Keep the original PDF. PNGs can't be searched or copied.
- Want a PDF again? Combine the images back with Teasoft's PNG to PDF tool.
