Facebook Text Formatter
Write bold, italic and underlined Facebook posts, add bullet lists, and copy them in one click.
Facebook doesn't have a bold or italic button for regular posts, so this free Facebook text formatter does it for you. Type or paste your post, select words and make them bold, italic, underlined or struck through, switch to fonts like script or monospace, and add bullets, ticks or numbered lists. Tidy the spacing, check the live Facebook preview and the 63,206-character counter, then copy your post and paste it straight into Facebook. Your text never leaves your browser, and the tool is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

How Do You Format Text on Facebook?
To format text on Facebook, type or paste your post into the editor, select the words you want to change and click B (bold), I (italic), U (underline) or S (strikethrough). Add bullets or numbered lists from the Lists menu, check the preview, then click Copy post and paste it into Facebook. The formatting stays because the tool turns your letters into Unicode characters that Facebook shows on desktop, mobile and Messenger.
Facebook posts, comments, Page updates and profile bios only accept plain text, so there is no bold or italic button (only some Group posts offer basic formatting). A Facebook text formatter gets around this by swapping normal letters for look-alike Unicode symbols, such as 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 for bold. Because they are characters, not styling, they survive copy and paste and appear for everyone who sees your post.
The formatting happens in your browser, so your post is never uploaded or stored. You get a preview card that looks like a real Facebook post, a live character and word count against Facebook’s 63,206-character limit, and a marker showing where Facebook cuts your post with “See more”. Undo, redo, paste from clipboard, a sample post and download as a .txt file are all built in.
Common reasons to format Facebook posts:
- Make your opening lines stand out before "See more" cuts the post.
- Highlight prices, dates, offers or key takeaways in bold.
- Break long posts into scannable bullet or numbered lists.
- Add dividers and emojis to separate the parts of a story.
- Style your profile bio, Page intro or Marketplace listings.
- Format comments, Group posts, event details and Page updates.
What each option does:
| Option | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Bold, Italic, Bold italic | Turns selected text into Unicode bold or italic letters. | Hooks, prices, dates and key phrases. |
| Underline & Strikethrough | Adds a line under or through each character. | Emphasis, or showing a before and after. |
| Fonts | Sans bold, Sans italic, Monospace, Script, Bold script, Fraktur, Double-struck and Small caps. | Short headings, a name or your bio. Avoid whole paragraphs. |
| Lists | Bullets, arrows, checkmarks, green ticks, pointers, sparkles, checkboxes, numbers and emoji numbers. | Steps, tips, features and checklists. |
| Insert | Ready-made dividers and popular emojis. | Separating sections and adding visual cues. |
| Clean up | Clear styling, tidy spacing, space out lines, remove blank lines. | Fixing text pasted from Word, Google Docs or ChatGPT. |
Good to know
- Facebook shows only the first few lines of a long post before "See more", so put your hook and most important point first.
- Posts can be up to 63,206 characters. The counter shows your characters and words as you type.
- Styled letters are Unicode symbols, so Facebook search may not match them and screen readers may spell them out. Use them for short highlights, not full paragraphs.
- Decorative fonts like Fraktur or Double-struck may not display on very old phones. Bold and italic work almost everywhere.
- Your text stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded, saved or shared.

Which Facebook Text Style Should I Use?

Which Formatting Should I Use for Each Facebook Post?
| Post type | Formatting | Lists | Tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal story | Bold hook, italic for thoughts | Short lines, no list | Space out lines so it reads easily |
| Tips or how-to post | Bold title | Numbered or emoji numbers | One idea per line |
| Business Page offer or update | Bold price, deal or key news | Green ticks for highlights | Add a 🎉 or 🔥 emoji |
| Marketplace listing | Bold item name and price | Bullets for condition and details | Keep search keywords in plain text |
| Event or Group announcement | Bold date and time | Pointers 👉 | Use a divider before the details |
| Profile bio or Page intro | Bold or small caps for a few words | Short lines or emoji bullets | Keep your name and keywords in plain text |
Writing a Facebook post that is easy to read:
- Start with a strong hook in the first one or two lines, before "See more".
- Keep paragraphs to one to three lines, with a blank line between them.
- Use bold for a few key words, not whole sentences.
- Use lists for steps, tips, offers or results.
- End with a question or call to action to invite comments and shares.
After you format your post, you can paste the same text into Facebook comments, Groups, Pages, Messenger, event descriptions, Marketplace listings or your profile bio. Because the formatting is made of Unicode characters, it also works on Instagram, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, Threads and other sites that only accept plain text.
Frequently Asked Questions

Select the text and click I for italic or U for underline, or press Ctrl/Cmd + I or Ctrl/Cmd + U. Then copy the post and paste it into Facebook.
Is this Facebook text formatter free?
Yes. It is 100% free, with no sign-up, no limits and no watermark.
Is my text uploaded or saved?
No. All formatting runs in your browser. Your post is never sent to a server or stored.

Yes. Bold, italic and lists show in the Facebook app for iPhone and Android, in Messenger and on desktop. A few decorative fonts may not show on very old devices.
How do I add bullet points to a Facebook post?
Select the lines and open Lists. Choose bullets, arrows, checkmarks, green ticks, pointers, sparkles, checkboxes or numbers. Choose Remove list to undo it.
Can I use different fonts on Facebook?
Yes. Open Fonts and choose Sans bold, Sans italic, Monospace, Script, Bold script, Fraktur, Double-struck or Small caps.
What is the character limit for a Facebook post?
A Facebook post can be up to 63,206 characters. The counter under the editor shows your characters and words as you type.
How many characters show before "See more" on Facebook?
It depends on the device, but Facebook usually shows only the first few lines of a long post before "See more", and even less on mobile. The preview shows where your post will be cut, so lead with your hook.
Does bold text affect Facebook search?
Styled letters are different Unicode characters, so Facebook search may not match them. Keep important keywords, names and hashtags in plain text.
Is formatted text accessible to screen readers?
Screen readers may read Unicode letters one by one or skip them. Use styled text for short highlights and keep your main message in regular text.
Can I format my Facebook bio, Page or comments?
Yes. Format the text here, copy it and paste it into your profile bio, Page intro, comments, Group posts, event details or Marketplace listings.
How do I remove formatting from text?
Select the text and choose Clean up → Clear styling. It turns bold, italic and fancy fonts back into normal letters.
How do I fix spacing in a Facebook post?
Use Clean up → Tidy spacing to remove extra spaces, Space out lines to add a blank line between paragraphs, or Remove blank lines to tighten the post.

Yes. Open Insert to add dividers such as ━━━━ or ── ✦ ── and popular emojis like 🚀, ✅, 💡 and 🔥.
Why does my formatting disappear when I paste into Facebook?
