Lower quality makes smaller files. 85–92% looks identical for most images.

JPG can’t store transparency, so transparent parts of your AVIF are filled with this colour.

    Why Convert AVIF to JPG?

AVIF to JPG conversion re-saves an AVIF image as a JPG file. AVIF is a modern, highly compressed image format, but many apps, editors, upload forms and older devices don't support it. JPG opens almost everywhere, so convert when an AVIF image won't open, won't upload, or is rejected by software.

AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is a newer image format that websites use to deliver sharp pictures at very small file sizes. It was developed by the Alliance for Open Media, the same group behind the AV1 video codec. When a site serves AVIF and you save the image, you end up with a .avif file on your computer.

That is where problems start. AVIF is newer than WebP and far newer than JPG, so support in everyday software is still patchy. You may find that:

JPG fixes all of these, because it is the most widely supported image format in the world.

What You Can Do With This Converter

How to Convert AVIF to JPG

    Add your AVIF images

Drag and drop your files, click browse, or press Ctrl+V to paste. You can add up to 50 files, each up to 100 MB.

    Pick quality and background

Open Settings. Keep quality at 90% for a good balance, or lower it for smaller files. If your image has transparent areas, choose the background colour that should fill them.

    Convert and download

Click Convert to JPG, then save each file or use Download to get all JPGs in one ZIP.

Why Did My Image Save as AVIF, and What Can I Do?

Websites choose AVIF because it keeps images sharp at very small file sizes, which makes pages load faster. When you save a picture from such a site, your browser stores the exact file the site sent, so you get an .avif file rather than a JPG. The image is not broken. Your software just doesn't recognise the format.

    Your options

Where JPG is the safer choice

Job and government portals, online marketplaces, email attachments, print services, older desktop software, document and presentation templates, and many social or messaging uploads.

Where AVIF is fine to keep

Modern websites and online stores, where smaller files help pages load faster. If you manage a site, also see Teasoft's JPG to WebP and PNG to WebP tools.

AVIF is a modern image format based on AV1 compression. It produces very small files at good visual quality and supports transparency, but many apps and devices still can't open it.

Many websites serve images in AVIF because the files are small and load fast. When you save the image, your browser stores the AVIF file the site sent. Converting it to JPG makes it compatible with more software.

For websites, AVIF usually produces smaller files at similar quality. JPG is still better for compatibility, because almost every device, app, form and print service supports it.

AVIF can compress even more than WebP, but WebP is supported by a wider range of software. Both are mainly used on websites. For sharing and uploads, JPG is the safest choice.

Slightly, because JPG is a lossy format. At 85–92% quality the difference is usually not visible. Use 95% if you want to keep as much detail as possible.

AVIF compresses more efficiently than JPG, so a JPG at similar visual quality is usually larger. Lower the quality slider if you need a smaller file.

JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose in Settings. To keep transparency, convert to PNG instead.

An animated AVIF becomes a still JPG image. Only a single frame is kept.

Teasoft's AVIF to JPG Converter is a free browser-based tool that turns AVIF images into JPG files, so they open in the apps, forms and devices you actually use. You control the quality and the background colour used for transparent areas, and you can convert up to 50 images in one go.

It is built for anyone who has downloaded a picture and found they couldn't use it: students filling in application forms, small business owners listing products, designers handling mixed file types and everyday users who just need an image to open.
