Instagram Text Formatter

Write bold, italic and underlined Instagram captions and bios, add bullet lists and line breaks, and copy them in one click.

Instagram has no bold or italic button for captions, comments or bios, so this free Instagram text formatter does it for you. Type or paste your caption, select words and make them bold, italic, underlined or struck through, switch to fonts like script or monospace, and add bullets, ticks or numbered lists. Tidy the spacing, check the live Instagram post preview and the 2,200-character counter, then copy your caption and paste it straight into Instagram. Your text never leaves your browser, and the tool is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

How Do You Format Text on Instagram?

To format text on Instagram, type or paste your caption into the editor, select the words you want to change and click B (bold), I (italic), U (underline) or S (strikethrough). Add bullets or numbered lists from the Lists menu, check the preview, then click Copy post and paste it into Instagram. The formatting stays because the tool turns your letters into Unicode characters that Instagram shows in the iPhone and Android apps and on instagram.com.

Instagram captions, comments and bios only accept plain text, so there is no built-in bold or italic option. An Instagram text formatter gets around this by swapping normal letters for look-alike Unicode symbols, such as 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 for bold. Because they are characters, not styling, they survive copy and paste and appear for everyone who sees your post, on any device.

The formatting happens in your browser, so your caption is never uploaded or stored. You get a preview card that looks like a real Instagram post, a live character and word count against the 2,200-character caption limit, and a reminder of where Instagram cuts your caption off with “more”. Undo, redo, paste from clipboard, a sample post and download as a .txt file are all built in.

What You Can Do With This Tool

Which Instagram Text Style Should I Use?

Use bold for your hook and key points, italic for quotes or soft emphasis, and lists to break up long captions. Keep fancy fonts for one or two words, such as a name or a short heading, so your caption stays easy to read, searchable and accessible.

Bold: Best for hooks, offers, headings and key tips you want people to notice.
Italic: Good for quotes, personal thoughts and gentle emphasis.
Bullet lists: Turn long captions and carousel recaps into quick, skimmable points.
Numbered lists: Ideal for steps, recipes and "5 tips" carousel captions.
Monospace: Works well for prices, stats or a typewriter look.
Script: Use sparingly for a name, signature or bio heading.

Writing an Instagram caption that is easy to read:

After you format your caption, you can paste the same text into Instagram comments, Reels, carousels, your bio or your name field. Because the formatting is made of Unicode characters, it also works on Facebook, Threads, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, TikTok and other sites that only accept plain text.
