Compress Image to 20KB
Get signatures, small photos and thumbnails under 20 KB.
Drop in your JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or AVIF images and make each one smaller than 20 KB in one click. The tool keeps the image as sharp as it can while staying under your target, and reduces the dimensions if it has to. Save as JPG for forms, or WebP for smaller, sharper files. Add up to 50 files at once, download them one by one or as a ZIP. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Up to 50 Files at Once
Drop images here or browse
JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, BMP and AVIF images, up to 50 files, 100 MB each. You can also paste with Ctrl+V.
The image is made as sharp as possible while staying under this size. If quality alone isn’t enough, the dimensions are reduced a little too.
PNG and other formats are converted. WEBP usually looks better at the same size.
Transparent areas are filled with this colour, which keeps the file small.

Why Compress an Image to 20 KB?
To compress an image to 20 KB, crop it tightly, add it, set the target size to 20 KB, choose JPG, click Compress images and download the result. Teasoft's tool lowers the quality until the file is under 20 KB, and reduces the dimensions if quality alone isn't enough. Signatures and small photos fit easily. Large photos and full-page scans will look soft at this size. Everything runs in your browser, so your files are never uploaded.
Some forms set a very small file limit, and 20 KB is one of the tightest you'll see. It is usually asked for on signature fields, small passport-style photos, profile avatars and thumbnails. A phone photo is 2–5 MB, so even a quick crop leaves a file hundreds of times too big. You can shrink it by trial and error in an editor, or let this tool do it: you give it the target, and it works out the settings.
The tool starts by lowering the image quality. If that alone can't get the file under 20 KB, it also reduces the pixel dimensions. At a limit this small, that is normal: a 20 KB image has room for only a small number of pixels, so the image will be smaller than your original. The aim is the sharpest image that fits.
Common reasons to compress an image to 20 KB:
- A form or portal has a signature field with a very small limit.
- An application asks for a small passport-style photo under 20 KB.
- A profile, avatar or thumbnail needs to be extremely light.
- An email system or upload field has a tiny attachment limit.
- You are uploading a stamp, seal or small logo that doesn't need much detail.
- You want a batch of small images reduced to the same limit at once.
20 KB, 50 KB or 100 KB?
| Under 20 KB | Under 50 KB | Under 100 KB | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical use | Signatures, tiny photos, thumbnails, icons | Small photos and signatures | Photos, document scans, product and web images |
| Detail kept | Only small or simple images look good | Softer on big or detailed images | Clear faces and readable text |
| Dimensions | Almost always reduced | More likely to be reduced | Sometimes reduced |
| Best for | Strict form fields and tiny uploads | Strict forms and small uploads | Most uploads with a “100 KB” limit |
If your limit is higher, use Teasoft’s Compress Image to 50KB, 100KB or 200KB page.
What each setting does:
| Setting | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Target size | The file size in KB the image should stay under. | Match your form’s limit. For a limit of 20 KB, use 20, or a little lower (about 18) to be safe. |
| Save as: JPG | Saves as JPG, which every form and system accepts. | Forms, portals and anything where “JPG only” is the rule. |
| Save as: WebP | Saves as WebP, which is smaller and sharper at the same size. | Websites and apps that accept WebP. Many forms don’t. |
| Background | The colour that fills transparent areas. | PNG signatures or logos with transparent backgrounds. White is the usual choice. |
Good to know
- 20 KB is very small. Only small or simple images look good at this size. A big, detailed photo or a full-page scan will be shrunk a lot and look soft.
- Dimensions will usually shrink. To reach 20 KB, the tool often has to reduce the pixel size of the image, so the result can be much smaller than the original.
- Under 20 KB, not exactly 20 KB. The result stays under your target, so it may come out smaller. If your form also has a minimum size, check the final file.
- It doesn't set exact pixel dimensions. If your form asks for a specific width and height in pixels, resize first with the Image Resizer, then compress. Keep your originals.
What You Can Do With This Tool
- Compress to a size you choose. Set the target in KB. The image stays under it.
- Sharpest result that fits. Quality is lowered only as far as needed, and dimensions are reduced only as far as necessary.
- JPG or WebP output. Use JPG for forms and portals, WebP for smaller, sharper files where it is accepted.
- Background colour for transparent images. Transparent areas are filled with the colour you pick, which keeps the file small.
- Compress in bulk. Add up to 50 files at once, each up to 100 MB, and download them all as one ZIP.
- Many input formats. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF.
- Private by design. Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded to a server, which matters for signatures, ID photos and documents.
- Add files your way. Drag and drop, browse, or paste with Ctrl+V.
- No sign-up, no watermark, no fees.
- Works on any device. Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone, in any modern browser.
Which Image Tool Should I Use?
Use this tool when you have a 20 KB limit to hit. If your limit is higher, use the 50 KB, 100 KB or 200 KB version, which keep more detail. If you want to choose the quality yourself, use the Image Compressor. If your form needs exact pixel dimensions, resize first.
How to Compress an Image to 20 KB (3 Steps)
Prepare and add your image
Crop the image tightly so there is no empty space, and resize it to the dimensions your form asks for if it lists any. Then drag and drop your files, click browse, or press Ctrl+V to paste. You can add up to 50 JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or AVIF files, each up to 100 MB.
Check the target and format
Open Settings. Set the target size to 20 KB (or a little lower, such as 18 KB, for a safety margin). Choose JPG for forms, or WebP if the site accepts it. If your image has a transparent background, pick the fill colour (white for signatures).
Compress and download
Click Compress images, check the file size and how the image looks, then save each file or use Download to get everything in one ZIP.
Tip: at 20 KB, a small starting image works best. If you start from a 4000 px photo, the tool has to shrink it a long way and may soften it. Cropping and resizing first gives a much cleaner result.
What Should I Do Before I Compress?
| What you have | Best approach |
|---|---|
| Signature on white paper | Sign with a dark pen on plain white paper, photograph it in good light, crop tightly, then compress as JPG. Plain white backgrounds compress extremely well and usually fit easily. |
| Transparent PNG signature | Pick white as the background colour and save as JPG. |
| Small passport-style photo | Crop close to the face and shoulders, resize to the dimensions required, then compress as JPG. Even lighting and a plain background help a lot. |
| Profile avatar or thumbnail | Crop to a square, resize to the size you need, then compress as JPG or WebP. |
| Stamp, seal or small logo | Crop tightly. Simple flat graphics compress well. If the colours need to be exact, check the result. |
| Full-page scan or document | 20 KB can’t hold a readable full page. Crop to just the part you need, or check whether the form allows a larger file and use the 100KB or 200KB tool. |
| Large phone photo (3–5 MB or more) | Crop and resize it first. Compressing a huge photo straight to 20 KB gives a very soft result. |
| iPhone HEIC photo | Convert it to JPG first with Images to JPG, then compress. |
Before you upload, check your form’s rules. Many portals list more than a maximum size, so look for:
- the file format (often JPG only)
- the pixel dimensions (a set width and height)
- a minimum size as well as a maximum (for example “between 10 KB and 20 KB”)
- how they count a KB (some systems count 1 KB as 1000 bytes, others as 1024), so a small safety margin helps
JPG or WebP?
| Choose | When |
|---|---|
| JPG | Forms, portals, email and anything where you aren’t sure what is accepted. |
| WebP | Websites and apps that accept it, where you want the sharpest image at 20 KB. |
Tips for hitting 20 KB with good quality
- Start from the original, not a copy that has already been compressed.
- Crop tightly before you compress, so the 20 KB isn't spent on empty space.
- Use good, even lighting. Clean, plain backgrounds compress far better than busy ones.
- Keep a safety margin: aim for about 18 KB if your portal is strict about 20 KB.
- Keep your original files in case the form changes its limit.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I compress an image to 20 KB?
Open Teasoft's Compress Image to 20KB tool, add your image (cropped tightly if you can), set the target size to 20 KB, choose JPG, click Compress images and download the result. The tool lowers the quality, and reduces the dimensions if needed, so the file stays under 20 KB.
How do I compress a signature to 20 KB?
Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen, photograph it in good light, crop tightly around the signature, then compress it here as JPG. Signatures on plain white backgrounds usually fit under 20 KB easily and stay readable.
Is 20 KB enough for a photo?
For a small passport-style photo, usually yes. Crop it close, resize it to the dimensions the form asks for and compress it. For a large or detailed photo, 20 KB is very tight, so the image will look soft. If the form allows a larger file, use the 50 KB or 100 KB tool.
Why does my image look blurry at 20 KB?
20 KB leaves room for only a small number of pixels and very little detail, so the tool lowers the quality and shrinks the dimensions. Starting from a smaller, tightly cropped, evenly lit image gives a much cleaner result.
Can I compress a full-page document or scan to 20 KB?
Not with readable text. 20 KB is too small for a full page. Crop to just the part you need, or see whether the form accepts a larger file and use the 100KB or 200KB tool.
Will the image be exactly 20 KB?
No. The tool makes the image as sharp as possible while staying under your target, so the result may be smaller than 20 KB. If your form has a minimum size, check the file before uploading.
Will the dimensions of my image change?
Usually, yes. To get under 20 KB the tool often has to reduce the pixel dimensions as well as the quality. If your form needs exact pixel dimensions, use the Image Resizer, then check the final file size.
Can I set an exact width and height?
Not here. This tool targets file size, not pixel dimensions. Use Teasoft's Image Resizer to set the dimensions, then compress.
Should I choose JPG or WebP?
Choose JPG for forms and portals, since almost every system accepts it. Choose WebP only if the site or app you're uploading to accepts it, because it gives a smaller, sharper image at the same size.
Does it keep transparent backgrounds?
No. Transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose, which keeps the file small. For a signature, white is the usual choice.
Can I compress a PNG to 20 KB?
Yes. PNG files are converted to JPG or WebP, which makes them much smaller. Transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick.
Can I compress an iPhone HEIC photo to 20 KB?
This tool accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF. Convert the HEIC photo to JPG first with Teasoft's Images to JPG or HEIC to JPG converter, then compress it here.
What if my form needs a different size, like 10 KB or 30 KB?
Change the number in the Target size box to match your limit. For finer control over quality or width, use the Image Compressor.
Can I compress several images at once?
Yes. Add up to 50 files and they are all compressed to the same target in one run. Download them as one ZIP.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Compression happens in your browser, and your files are never uploaded. That matters for signatures, ID photos and documents.
Can I compress images on my phone?
Yes. The tool works in the browser on Android, iPhone, tablets and computers. You do not need to install an app.
Is the tool free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no hidden fees.
