How Do You Convert a PDF to PowerPoint?
To convert a PDF to PowerPoint, add your PDF, choose a conversion mode (Editable text or Page images), then click Convert to PowerPoint and download the .pptx file. Teasoft's PDF to PowerPoint converter runs entirely in your browser, so your documents are never uploaded to a server.
PDFs are great for sharing but hard to present from or change. When you need to show a report in a meeting, update an old pitch deck you only have as a PDF, fix a lecture handout or turn a brochure into slides, a PowerPoint file is far easier to work with. This converter gives you a standard PPTX file that opens in Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, Apple Keynote, LibreOffice Impress and WPS Office.
Everything happens on your own device. With Editable text, your browser reads each page with pdf.js, an open-source PDF library, and places every line of text on a blank slide as its own text box, in the same position and at the same font size as in the PDF. Larger text is set in bold so headings stand out, and every PDF page becomes its own slide with the same shape as the page. With Page images, each page is drawn as a high-resolution image that fills a full slide, so the presentation looks exactly like the PDF, but the text cannot be edited.
What ends up in your PowerPoint file:
| Part of your PDF | With Editable text | With Page images |
|---|---|---|
| Text | Editable text boxes, one per line, placed where the text sits on the page | Part of the slide image, not editable |
| Layout | Text positions and font sizes are kept; slides have a plain white background | Identical to the original PDF |
| Headings | Larger text is set in bold so headings stand out | Exactly as in the PDF |
| Images, charts and tables | Not included; text from tables comes through as separate text boxes | Kept as part of each slide image |
| Fonts and colors | Text is set in Arial in a dark color | Original fonts and colors, shown as part of the image |
| Slide size | Matches the shape of the PDF page, one slide per PDF page | Matches the shape of the PDF page, one slide per PDF page |
| Scanned pages | No text to read, so page images are used automatically | Kept as images (no OCR) |
Common reasons to convert a PDF to PowerPoint:
- Presenting a report, proposal or research paper you only have as a PDF.
- Updating an old pitch deck or sales presentation that was saved as a PDF.
- Turning lecture notes, handouts and study material into classroom slides.
- Fixing typos, figures or dates on slides before presenting them again.
- Reusing brochures, posters and infographics in a meeting or event deck.
- Adding PDF pages to an existing PowerPoint deck as exact slide images.
What each control does:
| Control | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Add / drop area | Adds PDF files to the list. Drag and drop, click Add, or browse. | At the start, or to add more PDFs before converting |
| Conversion | Picks Editable text or Page images | Editable text to change the words; Page images when the exact look matters |
| Convert to PowerPoint | Converts every PDF in the list to a .pptx file | After choosing the conversion mode |
| Download | Saves one PowerPoint file, or a ZIP with all of them | When the results are ready |
| Clear | Empties the list so you can start again | When you added the wrong files or want a fresh batch |
Each PowerPoint file keeps the name of the original PDF with a .pptx extension, so report.pdf becomes report.pptx.
Good to know
- Password-protected PDFs can't be converted. If you know the password, remove it first with Unlock PDF.
- Need only a few slides? Extract the pages first with Split PDF, then convert the smaller file.
- Scanned PDFs are not OCR'd. If a PDF has no selectable text, page images are used automatically, so the slides look right but the text is not editable.
- Complex layouts are simplified. Editable text keeps text positions and font sizes, but images, shapes, backgrounds, tables and links are not rebuilt.
- Want a PDF again after editing? Turn your presentation back into a PDF with PowerPoint to PDF.
What You Can Do With This Tool
- Convert PDF to PowerPoint for free. No software to install and no account to create.
- Get editable PPTX files. Text comes through as real PowerPoint text boxes you can change.

Which PDF Tool Should I Use?
Use PDF to PowerPoint when you want to present or edit a PDF as slides. If you need to edit it as a document, unlock, split or shrink a file instead, one of these tools may be a better fit:
How to Convert PDF to PowerPoint (3 Steps)
Add your PDF file
Drag and drop, click Add, or browse to pick your PDF. You can add up to 50 files, each up to 150 MB.
Choose a conversion mode
Pick Editable text to change the words on your slides, or Page images to keep every page looking exactly like the PDF.
Convert and download
Click Convert to PowerPoint, then Download. One file downloads as a .pptx; several files download together as one ZIP file.
Tip: for slides that are easiest to edit, use Editable text on PDFs where you can select the text. If you only need a few pages, extract them first with Split PDF.
Which Conversion Mode Should I Use?
| What you have | Mode to choose | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| A text-based PDF you want to edit (report, proposal, lecture notes) | Editable text | Slides with editable text boxes at the original positions and font sizes |
| A designed deck, brochure or certificate that must look the same | Page images | Slides that look identical to the PDF |
| A scanned document or a photo of a page | Either (page images are used automatically) | Slides as images; the text is not editable |
| A PDF full of charts, photos or tables | Page images, or Editable text for the words only | The exact look, or editable text without the graphics |
| An old presentation you will update and present again | Editable text | Editable text boxes; add your theme, images and charts back in PowerPoint |
Getting better results when you convert
- Check that the text is selectable. If you can highlight words in the PDF, Editable text will work well.
- Unlock protected files first. The converter can't open PDFs that need a password.
- Split very long documents. Large PDFs, especially image-heavy ones, convert more smoothly when split.
- Use a computer for big batches. Phones have less memory for long or image-heavy PDFs.
- Finish the design in PowerPoint. After using Editable text, apply a theme and add images or charts where needed.
After you convert your PDF
- Turn it back into a PDF. Use PowerPoint to PDF once your edits are done.
- Reduce file size. Use Compress PDF to make the new PDF small enough to email or upload.
- Combine files. Use Merge PDF to join several PDFs into one.
- Protect it. Use Protect PDF to add a password before you share it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert a PDF to PowerPoint?
Open Teasoft's PDF to PowerPoint tool, add your PDF, choose Editable text or Page images, then click Convert to PowerPoint and download your .pptx file. Most documents convert in a few seconds.
Is the PDF to PowerPoint converter free?
Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up, no subscription and no watermark on your slides.
Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. Your PDFs are converted in your browser on your own device. They are never uploaded, stored or seen by anyone else.
Can I edit the PowerPoint file after converting?
Yes. With Editable text, each line of your PDF becomes a text box you can change, move, restyle and search in Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, Apple Keynote, LibreOffice Impress and WPS Office.
What is the difference between Editable text and Page images?
Editable text places the words from each page on a blank slide as text boxes you can change. Page images places each page on a slide as a picture, so it looks exactly like the PDF but the text cannot be edited.
Will my formatting stay the same?
Editable text keeps the position and font size of each line and the shape of the page, and sets larger text in bold for headings. It uses Arial on a white background and does not rebuild images, shapes, colors, tables or links. Choose Page images if the slides must look identical.
Can I convert a scanned PDF to PowerPoint?
Yes, but scanned pages have no selectable text and the tool does not use OCR, so they are added to PowerPoint as slide images. The slides will look right, but the text will not be editable.
Are images and charts kept in the PowerPoint file?
With Page images, yes, as part of each slide. With Editable text, images, charts and backgrounds are not included, and text from tables comes through as separate text boxes.
How many PDFs can I convert at once?
Up to 50 PDFs in one go, each up to 150 MB and 500 pages. When you convert more than one file, they download together as a single ZIP file.
What PowerPoint format do I get?
You get a .pptx file, the standard format used by PowerPoint 2007 and later. It also opens in Google Slides, Apple Keynote, LibreOffice Impress and WPS Office.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
No. A PDF that needs a password to open can't be converted. If you know the password, remove it first with Unlock PDF, then convert the unlocked file.
Why is some text out of place or missing?
PDFs with several columns, text inside tables, rotated text or unusual fonts can be hard to rebuild as text boxes. If the result looks wrong, try Page images to keep the exact look.
Can I convert PDF to PowerPoint on my phone?
Yes. It works in Chrome, Safari and other modern browsers on Android and iPhone. Very large or long PDFs convert more smoothly on a computer.
What will my PowerPoint file be called?
Each PowerPoint file keeps the name of the original PDF with a .pptx extension. Several files download together as one ZIP file.
Does the tool add a watermark?
No. Teasoft never adds a watermark, logo or extra slide to your presentations.
Do I need Microsoft PowerPoint to use this tool?
No. You don't need any software to convert. To open the .pptx file you can use Microsoft PowerPoint or free apps like Google Slides and LibreOffice Impress.
Is there a page limit?
Each PDF can have up to 500 pages, and each page becomes one slide. For longer documents, split the PDF into parts with Split PDF and convert each part.
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes, to open the page and load the PDF libraries. After that, the conversion happens on your device and your files are not sent anywhere.
