How Do You Edit a PDF Online?
To edit a PDF online, add your PDF to the Your PDF box, choose Text, Whiteout, Highlight, Image or Signature, and click on the page where you want it. Drag to move it, use the corner handle to resize it, then click Apply and save PDF and Download your edited copy. It works on any device, with nothing to install.
Most PDFs are made to be read, not changed. When you need to fill in a form, fix a date, cover an old address, mark key lines for a colleague or sign a letter, retyping the whole document wastes time and desktop editors cost money. A PDF editor lets you make those small, final changes directly on the pages and send the file back in minutes.
Everything happens on your own device. PDF.js shows your pages in the browser so you can place each edit exactly, and pdf-lib writes your text, shapes, images and signature into a new copy of the PDF. Your file is not sent to Teasoft or anyone else, so you can safely edit contracts, bank forms and personal documents.
What ends up in your edited PDF:
| Part of your PDF | In your edited PDF | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Text you add | Added | Written in Helvetica, Times or Courier at the size, weight and colour you choose. |
| Whiteout boxes | Added | White boxes hide what is underneath when the PDF is viewed or printed. |
| Highlights | Added | See-through yellow, so the text underneath stays readable. |
| Images and signatures | Added | PNG or JPG images and your signature sit exactly where you placed them. |
| Original pages, text and images | Unchanged | Everything you did not edit keeps its original quality. |
| File name | Updated | Saved as yourfile-edited.pdf, so your original file is never overwritten. |
Common reasons to edit a PDF
- Filling in forms that have no fillable fields, such as job, admission, bank and KYC forms.
- Signing contracts, offer letters, rent agreements and consent forms without printing them.
- Fixing a typo, date or amount by covering the old text and typing the correct one.
- Highlighting key clauses, figures or answers before you send a document for review.
- Adding a logo, stamp, photo or QR code to a letter, invoice or certificate.
- Adding notes, names or labels to scanned documents, worksheets and study material.
What each control does:
| Control | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Your PDF box | Holds the PDF you want to edit | Drop a file here or click browse. One file at a time, up to 150 MB. |
| Add and Clear | Opens a PDF or removes the current one | Use Clear to start over with a different file. |
| Text | Adds a text box to the page | Choose Helvetica, Times or Courier, the size, bold and the colour. |
| Whiteout | Draws a white box over part of the page | Cover a mistake, an old date or an unwanted mark, then type over it. |
| Highlight | Adds a see-through yellow marker | Draw it over lines, figures or clauses readers should notice. |
| Image | Places a PNG or JPG picture on the page | Add a logo, stamp, photo or scanned document. |
| Signature | Adds your signature to the page | Draw it with your mouse or finger, type your name, or upload an image. |
| Prev and Next | Moves between pages | Edit any page. Each page keeps its own changes. |
| Apply and save PDF and Download | Writes your edits into the PDF, then saves it | Your copy downloads as yourfile-edited.pdf. |
Good to know
- Whiteout covers, it doesn't erase. The original text is still in the file under the white box, so don't use it to hide passwords, account numbers or other confidential data.
- Existing text isn't edited in place. To change a word, white it out and add a new text box on top in a matching font and size.
- Text supports standard Latin characters. Characters outside the built-in fonts, such as Hindi or emoji, are left blank. Add them as an image instead.
- Locked PDFs won't open. Remove the password with Unlock PDF first, then edit the file here.
- Your original stays safe. Edits are saved to a new copy, so the file on your device is never changed.
What You Can Do With This Tool
- Edit PDFs for free. No software to install and no account needed.
- Add text anywhere. Type on any page in Helvetica, Times or Courier.
- Style your text. Change the size, make it bold and pick any colour.
- White out content. Cover typos, old dates, addresses or unwanted marks.
- Highlight text. Mark important lines, numbers and clauses in yellow.
- Insert images. Add PNG or JPG logos, stamps and photos.
- Sign PDFs. Draw, type or upload your signature.
- Move and resize. Drag any edit into place and resize it before you save.
- Edit long documents. Work on any page of PDFs up to 500 pages.
- Open large files. Edit PDFs up to 150 MB.
- Keep the original quality. Everything you don't edit stays exactly as it was.
- Use any device. Works on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone.
Which PDF Tool Should I Use?
Use the PDF Editor for quick changes on the page itself. For other jobs, these tools work well before or after you edit:
How to Edit a PDF (3 Steps)
Add your PDF
Drop a PDF into the Your PDF box, or click browse. You can open one file at a time, up to 150 MB and 500 pages, and the first page appears ready to edit.
Add text, images and your signature
Pick Text, Whiteout, Highlight, Image or Signature and click on the page to place it. Drag to move, use the corner handle to resize and × to delete. Use Prev and Next to edit other pages.
Download your edited PDF
Click Apply and save PDF. Teasoft writes your changes into a new copy of the file, then click Download to save yourfile-edited.pdf to your device.
Tip: to change existing text, draw a Whiteout box over it first, then add a Text box on top. Times suits most printed letters and forms, Helvetica suits modern documents and Courier suits typewriter-style forms. If the finished file is too large to email, run it through Compress PDF.
Which Editing Tool Should I Use?
| Task | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Fill in a form without fillable fields | Text | Click on each blank line and type your answer. |
| Correct a typo, date or amount | Whiteout + Text | Cover the old value, then type the new one on top. |
| Sign a contract or letter | Signature | Draw, type or upload your signature and place it on the signature line. |
| Mark key points for a reviewer | Highlight | The yellow marker is see-through, so the text stays readable. |
| Add a logo, stamp or photo | Image | PNG keeps transparent backgrounds, JPG works best for photos. |
| Hide confidential details | A redaction tool | Whiteout only covers content. The original text remains in the file. |
Getting better results when you edit a PDF
- Match the font. Use Times for serif documents and Helvetica for sans-serif ones, at a size close to the text around it.
- Whiteout first, then type. Make the white box slightly bigger than the old text so no edges show.
- Use a clean signature. Sign on plain white paper, or upload a PNG with a transparent background so it looks natural on the page.
- Pick the right image format. Use PNG for logos and stamps and JPG for photos.
- Check every page. Use Prev and Next to confirm each edit is on the right page before you save.
After you edit your PDF
- Check the result. Open the downloaded file and make sure every edit sits where you expect.
- Make it smaller. Use Compress PDF if the file is too large to email or upload.
- Lock it. Use Protect PDF to add a password before you share private documents.
- Combine files. Join it with other documents using Merge PDF.
