Why Convert TIFF to JPG?
TIFF to JPG conversion turns a TIFF (or TIF) image into a JPG file. TIFF files are very large and many websites, forms, email services and apps can't open or accept them. JPG files are far smaller and open almost everywhere, so convert when you need to share, upload or view a TIFF scan or photo.
TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is a high-quality format used by scanners, professional cameras, print workflows, publishing, archives and fax or document systems.
It can store images with little or no compression, which is great for quality but makes files huge. A single scanned page or photo can run to tens of megabytes.
That causes everyday problems:
- The file is too big to email or upload.
- A web form, portal or marketplace says "JPG or PNG only".
- Most web browsers can't display TIFF files directly, so previews don't work.
- Phones, tablets and many apps can't open the file.
- A multi-page scan is hard to handle as a single file.
JPG fixes all of these. It is compact and the most widely supported image format in the world.
TIFF vs JPG at a glance:
| TIFF | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical file size | Very large | Much smaller |
| Compression | Often none or lossless | Lossy |
| Multiple pages | Yes | No (one image per file) |
| Compatibility | Professional tools, scanners, print | Almost every device, browser and app |
| Best for | Archiving, print production, editing masters | Sharing, email, uploads, web |
Good to know:
- Keep your TIFF as the master. JPG is lossy, so it is a copy for sharing. Keep the original TIFF for archiving, print production or further editing.
- JPG holds one image per file. For a multi-page TIFF, each page needs its own JPG. Check how your converted pages come out in the ZIP.
- Colour and bit depth can change. JPG is an 8-bit format. TIFFs with higher bit depth, special colour profiles or CMYK colours may look slightly different as JPG, so don't use this for professional print proofing.
- Transparency is replaced by a colour. JPG can't store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick in Settings (white is the usual choice).
What You Can Do With This Converter
- Handles TIFF and TIF files. Convert scans, photos and documents up to 100 MB each.

Why Are TIFF Files So Big, and What Should You Do With Them?
Why are TIFF files so big?
TIFF is designed to preserve every detail. Many TIFF files use no compression or lossless compression, and they often store images at high resolution and sometimes at greater colour depth. That's why a single scanned page can be many times larger than the same page as a JPG.
Choose JPG when...
- You need to email, upload or share the image.
- A form or platform asks for JPG.
- You want to preview the image on a phone or in a browser.
- You are sending scans to someone who just needs to read or see them.
Keep TIFF when...
- You are archiving important documents or photos.
- The image will go to professional printing or publishing.
- You plan to keep editing the image and want to avoid compression loss.
Practical tips
- Scanned documents: convert at 80–90% quality for a good balance of readability and size.
- Photos: use 90% or higher.
- Very large TIFFs: if a file is over 100 MB, reduce its size or split it before converting.
- Need a single document file? Use Teasoft's JPG to PDF tool to combine the converted JPG pages into one PDF.
- Keep the originals. Store the TIFF masters safely and share the JPG copies.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert TIFF to JPG?
Open Teasoft's TIFF to JPG converter, add your TIFF files, choose the quality and background colour, click Convert to JPG and download the results as individual files or a ZIP.
What is a TIFF file?
TIFF (or TIF) is an image format used for high-quality scans, photos and print work. It usually stores images with little or no compression, so files are very large.
Is TIF the same as TIFF?
Yes. TIF and TIFF are the same format with different file extensions. The converter accepts both.
Can I convert a multi-page TIFF to JPG?
Yes. JPG can only hold one image, so each page of a multi-page TIFF becomes its own JPG. Check the ZIP after converting to confirm all pages are there.
Why is my TIFF file so big?
TIFF files often use no or lossless compression and can store high resolution and colour depth. That keeps every detail but makes the files much larger than JPGs.
Does converting TIFF to JPG reduce quality?
Slightly, because JPG is a lossy format. At 85–92% quality the difference is usually not visible for photos and scans. Keep the original TIFF if you need a lossless master.
How much smaller will my JPG be?
Usually much smaller, often a fraction of the TIFF's size, depending on the image and the quality setting.
Why can't I open TIFF files in my browser or on my phone?
Most web browsers and many mobile apps don't support TIFF, so the file won't preview or upload. JPG opens almost everywhere.
What happens to transparent areas in my TIFF?
JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose in Settings.
Can I convert many TIFF files at once?
Yes. Add up to 50 files in one batch, each up to 100 MB, and download them all as a ZIP.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion happens in your browser, and your files are never uploaded.
Can I convert TIFF to JPG on my phone?
Yes. The converter works in the browser on Android, iPhone, tablets and computers. You do not need to install an app.
Is the TIFF to JPG converter free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no hidden fees.
