Why Convert PSD to JPG?
PSD to JPG conversion turns a Photoshop file into a regular JPG image you can open, preview, email or upload without Photoshop. The JPG is a flattened picture of the finished design. Individual layers, text and effects are not kept as editable parts.
PSD is Adobe Photoshop's working format.
It can hold layers, masks, text, effects and more, which is great for editing but not for sharing. PSD files are often very large, and most phones, browsers, email programs and web forms can't open them.
That's why so many people end up stuck with a PSD they can't see:
- A client or designer sent a PSD and you don't have Photoshop.
- You need to preview a design before approving it.
- A form, portal or marketplace says "JPG or PNG only".
- The file is too big to email or upload.
- You want a quick thumbnail or proof to share on chat or social media.
Converting to JPG gives you a small, universally supported picture of the design.
PSD vs JPG at a glance:
| PSD | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Editing in Photoshop | Viewing and sharing |
| Layers and editable text | Yes | No (flattened) |
| Typical file size | Often very large | Much smaller |
| Transparency | Yes | No |
| Compatibility | Photoshop and some design tools | Almost every device, browser and app |
Good to know:
- You get a flattened picture. The JPG shows the design as it looks when finished. You can't edit layers, text or effects in it. To keep editing, keep the PSD.
- JPG is lossy. The JPG is a copy for viewing and sharing. Keep the original PSD as the master.
- Transparency is replaced by a colour. JPG can't store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick in Settings (white is the usual choice).
- Some PSDs may not render exactly. Files that use advanced features or were saved without a built-in preview may look different or fail to convert. If that happens, open the file in Photoshop and re-save it with "Maximize Compatibility" turned on, or export it as JPG or PNG from there.
What You Can Do With This Converter
- No Photoshop needed. Open and share PSD files straight from your browser.
- Control the quality. The slider starts at 90%. Lower values make smaller files, and 85–92% looks identical for most images.
- Choose the background colour. Pick white, black or any colour to fill transparent areas.
- Convert in bulk. Add up to 50 PSD files at once, each up to 100 MB, and download them all as one ZIP.
- Private by design. Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded to a server, which matters for client work and unreleased designs.
- Add files your way. Drag and drop, browse, or paste with Ctrl+V.
- No sign-up, no watermark, no fees.
- Works on any device. Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone, in any modern browser.

How Can You Open a PSD File Without Photoshop?
Your options
- Convert it to JPG (this tool). The quickest way to see and share the finished design.
- Ask the sender for a JPG or PNG. Most designers can export one from Photoshop in seconds.
- Use other design software. Some image editors can open PSD files, though layers and effects may not look identical.
Where JPG is the right choice
- Previews, client approvals, email attachments, web forms, social media and any case where you just need to see or send the final picture.
Where you still need the PSD
- Editing layers or text, changing effects, re-exporting at different sizes, and keeping a working master of the design.
Tips for designers sending files
- Export a JPG proof for clients who don't have Photoshop.
- Turn on Maximize Compatibility when saving PSDs so other tools can read a built-in preview.
- Keep file names clear (for example brand-poster-v2.psd) so exported JPGs are easy to match.
- If the design uses transparency, send a PNG as well, since JPG can't keep it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert PSD to JPG without Photoshop?
Open Teasoft's PSD to JPG converter, add your PSD files, choose the quality and background colour, click Convert to JPG and download the results as individual files or a ZIP.
What is a PSD file?
PSD is Adobe Photoshop's native file format. It can store layers, masks, text and effects, so it is ideal for editing but large and not widely supported outside design tools.
Will my layers be kept?
No. The JPG is a flattened image of the finished design. Layers, editable text and effects are not kept. Keep the original PSD if you need to edit them.
Can I open a PSD file without Photoshop?
Yes. Converting it to JPG with this tool lets you see and share the design in any browser. Some other image editors can also open PSD files, but layers and effects may look different.
Why does my converted JPG look different from the design in Photoshop?
PSD files can use advanced effects or settings that other tools don't read perfectly. For the most accurate result, export the JPG from Photoshop itself, or re-save the PSD with Maximize Compatibility turned on and convert again.
Does converting PSD to JPG reduce quality?
Slightly, because JPG is a lossy format. At 85–92% quality the difference is usually not visible. Keep the original PSD as your lossless master.
What happens to transparent areas in my PSD?
JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose in Settings. If you need transparency, export a PNG from Photoshop.
Why is my PSD file so large?
PSD files store layers, masks and other editing data on top of the image, so they are often much larger than a single flattened image.
Can I convert many PSD files at once?
Yes. Add up to 50 PSD files in one batch, each up to 100 MB, and download them all as a ZIP.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion happens in your browser, and your files are never uploaded. That makes it suitable for client work and unreleased designs.
Can I convert PSD to JPG on my phone?
Yes. The converter works in the browser on Android, iPhone, tablets and computers. You do not need to install an app.
Is the PSD to JPG converter free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no hidden fees.
