How Do You Format HTML Online?

To format HTML online, paste your code into the HTML input box, or upload an .html file or drop it onto the box. Pick an indentation (2 spaces, 4 spaces or Tab), then click Beautify HTML or press Ctrl + Enter. Clean, indented HTML appears in the Result box, ready to copy or download. To make the code smaller instead, click Minify HTML.

HTML copied from a CMS, a page builder, an email builder or a minified production file often arrives as one long line with no indentation. That makes it hard to read, debug and review. An HTML formatter, also called an HTML beautifier or pretty printer, rebuilds the indentation so every nested tag sits on its own line and you can see the structure of the page at a glance. When the code is ready to publish, a minifier does the opposite and strips out the extra whitespace.

Everything runs on your own device. Beautifying uses the open-source js-beautify library, the same formatter built into many code editors, and minifying uses Teasoft’s built-in HTML minifier. Your HTML is not sent to Teasoft or anyone else, so you can safely format private templates, client projects and code that contains internal URLs.

How to Format HTML (3 Steps)

Add your HTML

Paste your code into the HTML input box, click Upload to open an .html file, or drop a file onto the box. Click Sample to try the tool with example code.

Choose your settings

Pick 2 spaces, 4 spaces or Tab, then set line wrapping, attribute layout and blank lines to match your project’s code style.

Beautify or minify, then copy

Click Beautify HTML (or press Ctrl + Enter) for clean, indented code, or Minify HTML for the smallest file. Then click Copy, or Download to save formatted.html.

Tip: most modern projects use 2 spaces for HTML, while many older codebases and PHP templates use 4 spaces or tabs. Use the same setting as your code editor so your diffs stay clean. If the page also has a large stylesheet, run it through the CSS Formatter too.
