Compress Image to 200KB

Keep photos and scans clear while getting them under 200 KB.

Drop in your JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or AVIF images and make each one smaller than 200 KB in one click. The tool keeps the image as sharp as it can while staying under your target, and reduces the dimensions a little only if it has to. Save as JPG for forms, or WebP for smaller, sharper files. Add up to 50 files at once, download them one by one or as a ZIP. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

The image is made as sharp as possible while staying under this size. If quality alone isn’t enough, the dimensions are reduced a little too.

PNG and other formats are converted. WEBP usually looks better at the same size.

Transparent areas are filled with this colour, which keeps the file small.

Why Compress an Image to 200 KB?

To compress an image to 200 KB, add your image, set the target size to 200 KB, choose JPG, click Compress images and download the result. Teasoft's tool lowers the quality until the file is under 200 KB, and reduces the dimensions slightly only if quality alone isn't enough. Everything runs in your browser, so your files are never uploaded.

200 KB is a comfortable limit. It is enough for a clear photo, a full-page scan where the text is still readable, a resume or ID proof saved as an image, a product listing picture, or a web image that loads quickly. It is also a very common cap on job applications, college and exam forms, marketplace listings and email attachments. But a phone photo is usually 2–5 MB and a high-resolution scan can be several MB, so uploads get rejected with a "file too large" message. You can shrink the file by trial and error in an editor, or let this tool do it: you give it the target, and it works out the settings.

The tool starts by lowering the image quality. If that alone can't get the file under your target, it also reduces the pixel dimensions a little. The aim is the sharpest image that fits. At 200 KB there is room to keep a lot of detail, so most normal-size photos and scans need only a modest quality drop.

What You Can Do With This Tool

How to Compress an Image to 200 KB (3 Steps)

    Add your images

Drag and drop your files, click browse, or press Ctrl+V to paste. You can add up to 50 JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or AVIF files, each up to 100 MB.

    Check the target and format

Open Settings. Set the target size to 200 KB (or a little lower, such as 190 KB, for a safety margin). Choose JPG for forms, or WebP if the site accepts it. If your image has a transparent background, pick the fill colour.

    Compress and download

Click Compress images, check the file size and how the image looks, then save each file or use Download to get everything in one ZIP.

Tip: for the sharpest result, resize a very large photo to a sensible size first (for example about 1600–2000 px wide for a form or listing photo), then compress. The tool then spends the 200 KB on detail you can see.

What Should I Do Before I Compress?

    What you haveBest approach
Photo for an application or profileCrop it, resize to the dimensions required, then compress as JPG. 200 KB gives a clear, natural-looking result.
Full-page scan (certificate, marksheet, ID or address proof)Crop away empty margins, scan at a reasonable size, then compress as JPG. Check that the small print is still readable.
Resume or document saved as an imageCompress as JPG, then zoom in to check that the text is sharp.
Multi-page documentCompress each page as its own image. If you need one file, combine them afterwards with JPG to PDF, and check the PDF’s size.
Product or listing photoResize to the dimensions the marketplace recommends, then compress as JPG or WebP.
Website, blog or hero imageChoose WebP if your site supports it, and resize to the width you actually display.
Large phone photo (3–5 MB or more)Resize first. Compressing a huge photo straight to 200 KB gives a softer result than resizing and then compressing.
Transparent PNG logoThis tool fills transparency with a colour. To keep it transparent, use the PNG Compressor.
iPhone HEIC photoConvert it to JPG first with Images to JPG, then compress.

Before you upload, check your form’s rules. Many portals list more than a maximum size, so look for:

    • the file format (often JPG only)
    • the pixel dimensions (a set width and height)
    • a minimum size as well as a maximum (for example “between 100 KB and 200 KB”)
    • how they count a KB (some systems count 1 KB as 1000 bytes, others as 1024), so a small safety margin helps

    JPG or WebP?

JPGForms, portals, email and anything where you aren’t sure what is accepted.
WebPWebsites and apps that accept it, where you want the sharpest image at 200 KB.

Tips for hitting 200 KB with good quality

    Frequently Asked Questions

Open Teasoft's Compress Image to 200KB tool, add your image, set the target size to 200 KB, choose JPG, click Compress images and download the result. The tool lowers the quality, and reduces the dimensions slightly if needed, so the file stays under 200 KB.

Crop the photo, resize it to the dimensions the form asks for (use the Image Resizer), then compress it here as JPG. Check the size and how it looks before you upload, and check the form for its required format and minimum size.

No. The tool makes the image as sharp as possible while staying under your target, so the result may be a little smaller than 200 KB. If your form has a minimum size, check the file before uploading.

Usually, if the scan is cropped and a sensible size. 200 KB leaves more room than 50 KB or 100 KB, so small print is more likely to stay clear. Very large, detailed pages can still soften, so check the result at full size.

A 200 KB limit leaves twice the room of 100 KB, so images keep more detail and are less likely to be reduced in size. If your limit is smaller, use Teasoft's Compress Image to 100KB or Compress Image to 50KB tool.

Simple images, such as a signature on a white background or a flat graphic, compress to very small files, and images that were already small or heavily compressed may not need to shrink much. If you want more detail and your limit allows it, you can raise the target.

Some detail is lost, and the larger or more detailed the original, the more you'll notice. At 200 KB most normal-size photos and scans still look clear. Starting from a cropped, properly sized image gives the best result.

Possibly. The tool lowers quality first, and if that alone can't get the file under your target, it also reduces the dimensions a little. If your form needs exact pixel dimensions, resize first and check the final size.

Choose JPG for forms and portals, since almost every system accepts it. Choose WebP only if the site or app you're uploading to accepts it, because it gives a smaller, sharper image at the same size.

No. Transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose, which keeps the file small. To keep transparency, use Teasoft's PNG Compressor.

Yes. PNG files are converted to JPG or WebP, which makes them much smaller. Transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick.

This tool accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF. Convert the HEIC photo to JPG first with Teasoft's Images to JPG or HEIC to JPG converter, then compress it here.

This tool is for images. To make a PDF page into an image, use PDF to JPG, then compress the JPG here. For several pages, compress each image and then combine them with JPG to PDF.

Change the number in the Target size box to match your limit. For finer control over quality or width, use the Image Compressor.

Yes. Add up to 50 files and they are all compressed to the same target in one run. Download them as one ZIP.

No. Compression happens in your browser, and your files are never uploaded. That matters for ID photos, certificates and documents.

Yes. The tool works in the browser on Android, iPhone, tablets and computers. You do not need to install an app.

Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no hidden fees.
