Animated GIF turns all your photos into slides, in the order listed. Use the arrows on each photo to reorder them.

    px

Shrinks big photos, keeping proportions, which makes GIFs much smaller. Animated GIFs are limited to 1000 px wide when this is empty.

    Colours

GIF can only hold up to 256 colours per frame, so photos always look slightly different from the JPG. Fewer colours make smaller files. Dithering hides banding in skies and skin tones.

How Does JPG to GIF Work?

To convert JPG to GIF, add your JPG photos, choose One GIF per image or One animated GIF, set the delay, maximum width and colours, click Convert to GIF and download the result. One GIF per image gives you a GIF copy of each photo. One animated GIF combines all your photos into a slideshow in the order listed. Teasoft's tool works in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded.

JPG and GIF are very different formats. JPG is made for photos: it can hold millions of colours and keeps files small. GIF is made for simple graphics and short animations: each frame can hold at most 256 colours. A tool that turns a JPG into a GIF has to squeeze the photo down to 256 colours, so the GIF always looks slightly different from the original.

People convert JPG to GIF for two main reasons. The first is that a website, app or chat tool asks for a GIF. The second is that they want to make an animated GIF from a set of photos, such as a slideshow, a before-and-after, or a quick flipbook. This tool does both, in two modes you choose in Settings.

    Pick your mode:

    ModeWhat you getChoose it when
One GIF per imageA separate GIF for every photo you add.A site or app only accepts GIF, or you want a GIF copy of each photo.
One animated GIFA single GIF that plays all your photos as slides, in the order listed. You want a slideshow, a flipbook or a before-and-after.

How to Convert JPG to GIF (3 Steps)

    Add your JPG photos

Drag and drop your files, click Add, or press Ctrl+V to paste. You can add up to 50 JPG or JPEG files, each up to 100 MB. For an animated GIF, use the arrows on each photo to put them in the order you want.

    Choose the settings

Open Settings. Choose One GIF per image or One animated GIF. For an animated GIF, set the delay (1000 ms is one second per frame). Set a Max width to keep the file small, choose the number of colours, and turn on dithering for photos with skies or skin tones.

    Convert and download

Click Convert to GIF, check how the result looks, then save each file or use Download to get everything in one ZIP.

Tip: GIFs get large quickly. If your GIF is too big, set a Max width of around 600 px and try 128 colours before changing anything else.

    Which Settings Should I Use?

    Your goalCreateSuggested settings

Smallest possible fileEitherMax width 400 px, 32 or 64 colours, dithering off.

These are starting points, not fixed rules. Try one, check the file size and the look, and adjust.

    Which colour setting?

    ChooseWhen
256 (best)Photos where quality matters. Gives the closest match to the JPG.
128A good balance of look and size for most animated GIFs.
64Small GIFs for chat or email where some roughness is fine.
32 (smallest)The smallest files. Photos will look clearly posterised.

    Dithering on or off?
Dithering adds a fine pattern that hides banding, the visible steps you get when a smooth sky or skin tone is squeezed into fewer colours. Keep it on for photos. It can make files slightly larger, so turn it off if size matters more than smoothness.

How big should the GIF be?
Set Max width. Photos straight from a phone are thousands of pixels wide, which makes huge GIFs. For a slideshow shown on a web page or in chat, 500 to 800 px is usually plenty. Animated GIFs are limited to 1000 px wide.

How long should each frame show?
The delay is in milliseconds, so 1000 ms is one second. Use about 1000 to 2000 ms for a slideshow where people need time to look. Use 100 to 200 ms for a quick flipbook effect. Browsers can’t show frames faster than about 20 ms.

You set it with the delay, in milliseconds. 1000 ms is one second per frame. Browsers can't show frames faster than about 20 ms.

GIF can only hold up to 256 colours per frame, while a JPG can hold millions. Photos therefore look slightly different as a GIF. Use 256 colours and turn on dithering for the closest match.

Dithering adds a fine pattern that hides banding, the visible steps in smooth areas such as skies and skin tones, when an image has fewer colours. It makes photos look smoother, and can make files a little larger.

GIF isn't built for photos. Each frame is stored separately, and photo detail doesn't compress well in GIF. To make it smaller, set a Max width, choose fewer colours and use fewer photos.

Set a Max width (for example 500 to 600 px), choose 128 or 64 colours, use fewer photos, and turn off dithering if size matters more than smoothness.

It shrinks big photos to the width you set, keeping their proportions, which makes GIFs much smaller. Animated GIFs are limited to 1000 px wide.

Up to 50 JPG or JPEG files, each up to 100 MB. In One GIF per image mode they are all converted in one run and can be downloaded as a ZIP.

Not exactly. GIF is limited to 256 colours per frame, so a photo will look a little different as a GIF. If you only need a smaller file and don't need a GIF, use the JPG Compressor instead.
