JPG and JPEG photos, up to 50 files, 100 MB each. You can also paste with Ctrl+V.
Animated GIF turns all your photos into slides, in the order listed. Use the arrows on each photo to reorder them.
1000 ms is one second. Browsers can’t show frames faster than about 20 ms.
Shrinks big photos, keeping proportions, which makes GIFs much smaller. Animated GIFs are limited to 1000 px wide when this is empty.
GIF can only hold up to 256 colours per frame, so photos always look slightly different from the JPG. Fewer colours make smaller files. Dithering hides banding in skies and skin tones.
Every frame has the size of the first photo. Photos with a different shape are fitted inside it, and this colour fills the gaps.
Private by design: your images are processed in your browser and never uploaded. Protected by Cloudflare Turnstile.
How Does JPG to GIF Work?
To convert JPG to GIF, add your JPG photos, choose One GIF per image or One animated GIF, set the delay, maximum width and colours, click Convert to GIF and download the result. One GIF per image gives you a GIF copy of each photo. One animated GIF combines all your photos into a slideshow in the order listed. Teasoft's tool works in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded.
JPG and GIF are very different formats. JPG is made for photos: it can hold millions of colours and keeps files small. GIF is made for simple graphics and short animations: each frame can hold at most 256 colours. A tool that turns a JPG into a GIF has to squeeze the photo down to 256 colours, so the GIF always looks slightly different from the original.
People convert JPG to GIF for two main reasons. The first is that a website, app or chat tool asks for a GIF. The second is that they want to make an animated GIF from a set of photos, such as a slideshow, a before-and-after, or a quick flipbook. This tool does both, in two modes you choose in Settings.
Pick your mode:
| Mode | What you get | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| One GIF per image | A separate GIF for every photo you add. | A site or app only accepts GIF, or you want a GIF copy of each photo. |
| One animated GIF | A single GIF that plays all your photos as slides, in the order listed. | You want a slideshow, a flipbook or a before-and-after. |
Common reasons to convert JPG to GIF:
- You want an animated slideshow of several photos in one file.
- You want a quick before-and-after, with two photos that switch back and forth.
- You are making a simple flipbook-style animation from a set of frames.
- A website, app or older system only accepts GIF files.
- You want a small, looping image for a message, email or forum post.
- You want to turn a batch of photos into GIF copies at once.
What each setting does:
| Setting | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Create | One GIF per image, or one animated GIF. | Pick the mode that matches your goal. |
| Delay (ms) | How long each frame shows in an animated GIF. 1000 ms is one second. | Animated GIFs. About 20 ms is the fastest browsers can show. |
| Max width (px) | Shrinks big photos, keeping proportions. Optional. | To make GIFs much smaller. Animated GIFs are limited to 1000 px wide. |
| Colours | 256, 128, 64 or 32 colours. | 256 for the best look. Fewer colours make smaller files. |
| Dithering | Smooth colour transitions to hide banding. | Photos with skies and skin tones. |
Good to know
- A GIF is rarely better than the JPG. Because of the 256-colour limit, a photo saved as a GIF looks slightly different and is usually a bigger file than the JPG. Convert only when you need a GIF or want animation.
- GIFs can get big quickly. Every frame in an animated GIF is stored separately, so many large photos make a large file. Use Max width and fewer colours to keep it down.
- There is no transparency from a JPG. JPG has no transparent areas, so the GIF is a solid image.
- It is a slideshow, not a video converter. The animated mode plays your photos as frames. It does not add text, effects or transitions.
What You Can Do With This Tool
- Two modes. Make one GIF per photo, or combine all your photos into one animated GIF.
- Set the frame order. Photos play in the order listed. Use the arrows on each photo to reorder them.
- Control the speed. Set the delay in milliseconds. 1000 ms is one second per frame.
- Shrink the size. Set a maximum width in pixels to make files much smaller.
- Choose the colour depth. 256, 128, 64 or 32 colours, from the best look to the smallest file.
- Smooth colour transitions. Turn on dithering to hide banding in skies and skin tones.
- Convert in bulk. Add up to 50 JPG or JPEG files at once, each up to 100 MB, and download them one by one or as a ZIP.
- Private by design. Your photos are processed in your browser and never uploaded to a server.
- Add files your way. Drag and drop, browse, or paste with Ctrl+V.
- No sign-up, no watermark, no fees.
- Works on any device. Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone, in any modern browser.
Which Image Tool Should I Use?
Use JPG to GIF when you need a GIF, or want to make an animated GIF from photos. If you want to go the other way, use GIF to JPG. If your photos are not JPGs, convert them to JPG first.
How to Convert JPG to GIF (3 Steps)
Add your JPG photos
Drag and drop your files, click Add, or press Ctrl+V to paste. You can add up to 50 JPG or JPEG files, each up to 100 MB. For an animated GIF, use the arrows on each photo to put them in the order you want.
Choose the settings
Open Settings. Choose One GIF per image or One animated GIF. For an animated GIF, set the delay (1000 ms is one second per frame). Set a Max width to keep the file small, choose the number of colours, and turn on dithering for photos with skies or skin tones.
Convert and download
Click Convert to GIF, check how the result looks, then save each file or use Download to get everything in one ZIP.
Tip: GIFs get large quickly. If your GIF is too big, set a Max width of around 600 px and try 128 colours before changing anything else.
Which Settings Should I Use?
| Your goal | Create | Suggested settings |
|---|---|---|
| Photo slideshow | One animated GIF | Delay about 1000 to 2000 ms, Max width 600 to 800 px, 256 colours, dithering on. |
| Before-and-after | One animated GIF | Two photos, delay about 1000 ms, same framing for both, Max width 600 px. |
| Quick flipbook or animation | One animated GIF | Delay about 100 to 200 ms, Max width 400 to 600 px, 128 colours. |
| Small GIF for chat or email | One animated GIF | Max width 400 to 500 px, 64 or 128 colours, fewer photos. |
| GIF copy of each photo | One GIF per image | 256 colours, dithering on, Max width only if you want a smaller size. |
| Smallest possible file | Either | Max width 400 px, 32 or 64 colours, dithering off. |
These are starting points, not fixed rules. Try one, check the file size and the look, and adjust.
Which colour setting?
| Choose | When |
|---|---|
| 256 (best) | Photos where quality matters. Gives the closest match to the JPG. |
| 128 | A good balance of look and size for most animated GIFs. |
| 64 | Small GIFs for chat or email where some roughness is fine. |
| 32 (smallest) | The smallest files. Photos will look clearly posterised. |
Dithering on or off?
Dithering adds a fine pattern that hides banding, the visible steps you get when a smooth sky or skin tone is squeezed into fewer colours. Keep it on for photos. It can make files slightly larger, so turn it off if size matters more than smoothness.
How big should the GIF be?
Set Max width. Photos straight from a phone are thousands of pixels wide, which makes huge GIFs. For a slideshow shown on a web page or in chat, 500 to 800 px is usually plenty. Animated GIFs are limited to 1000 px wide.
How long should each frame show?
The delay is in milliseconds, so 1000 ms is one second. Use about 1000 to 2000 ms for a slideshow where people need time to look. Use 100 to 200 ms for a quick flipbook effect. Browsers can’t show frames faster than about 20 ms.
Tips for a good animated GIF
- Use photos with the same size and shape, so the frames line up. Crop or resize them first with the Image Resizer.
- Keep the number of photos low. Every frame adds to the file size.
- Put the photos in the right order before converting, using the arrows.
- Keep your original JPGs. A GIF can't be turned back into the original photo.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert JPG to GIF?
Open Teasoft's JPG to GIF converter, add your JPG photos, choose One GIF per image, click Convert to GIF and download the result. The conversion happens in your browser and your photos are never uploaded.
How do I make an animated GIF from JPG photos?
Add your photos, choose One animated GIF, set the delay for each frame, and click Convert to GIF. The photos play as slides in the order listed. Use the arrows on each photo to change the order.
How do I change the order of the frames?
Use the arrows on each photo to move it up or down the list. The animated GIF plays the photos in that order.
How long does each frame show?
You set it with the delay, in milliseconds. 1000 ms is one second per frame. Browsers can't show frames faster than about 20 ms.
Why does my GIF look different from the JPG?
GIF can only hold up to 256 colours per frame, while a JPG can hold millions. Photos therefore look slightly different as a GIF. Use 256 colours and turn on dithering for the closest match.
What is dithering?
Dithering adds a fine pattern that hides banding, the visible steps in smooth areas such as skies and skin tones, when an image has fewer colours. It makes photos look smoother, and can make files a little larger.
Why is my GIF bigger than the JPG?
GIF isn't built for photos. Each frame is stored separately, and photo detail doesn't compress well in GIF. To make it smaller, set a Max width, choose fewer colours and use fewer photos.
How do I make my GIF smaller?
Set a Max width (for example 500 to 600 px), choose 128 or 64 colours, use fewer photos, and turn off dithering if size matters more than smoothness.
What does Max width do?
It shrinks big photos to the width you set, keeping their proportions, which makes GIFs much smaller. Animated GIFs are limited to 1000 px wide.
How many photos can I convert at once?
Up to 50 JPG or JPEG files, each up to 100 MB. In One GIF per image mode they are all converted in one run and can be downloaded as a ZIP.
Does JPG to GIF keep the quality?
Not exactly. GIF is limited to 256 colours per frame, so a photo will look a little different as a GIF. If you only need a smaller file and don't need a GIF, use the JPG Compressor instead.
Does the GIF have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the GIF is a solid image.
Can I convert PNG, WebP or HEIC to GIF?
This tool takes JPG and JPEG photos. Convert other formats to JPG first with Teasoft's Images to JPG tool, then add them here. Transparent areas turn into a solid colour in JPG.
Can I turn a GIF back into a JPG?
Yes, with Teasoft's GIF to JPG tool. The result is a JPG of the GIF, not your original photo, so keep your original files.
Can I add text or effects to the GIF?
No. The tool turns your photos into GIF frames. It does not add text, captions or transitions.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion happens in your browser, and your photos are never uploaded.
Can I convert JPG to GIF on my phone?
Yes. The tool works in the browser on Android, iPhone, tablets and computers. You do not need to install an app.
Is the JPG to GIF converter free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no hidden fees.
